Invoice – Timeline
What it is about
The Timeline tab shows events related to the invoice in chronological order from newest to oldest. It brings together billing events, communications, and comments, so you can see the entire history of the invoice at a glance — when the invoice was sent, when the payment was recorded, and what messages have been exchanged with the customer.
Getting started
- Go to Invoices in the menu on the left-hand side.
- Click the number of the invoice you want from the list.
- Click the Timeline tab at the top of the invoice.
What you can do on this page
Browse event history
Events are displayed as a list grouped by date, newest first. Each event shows the actor, time, and type of event. The content of the event varies depending on the type — for example, a payment event shows the amount and payment date, while an invoice sending event shows the amount and due date.
Filter events
The Filter button in the top right corner opens filter options where you can choose which types of events are shown:
- Billing — billing-related events such as invoice sending and payment recordings
- Communication — messages sent to the customer and payment reminders
- Commenting — internal comments and notes
By default, all categories are selected. Deselect a category to hide its events.
Tips and notes
- The timeline is most useful for monitoring overdue invoices — you can quickly see when the invoice was sent, whether payment reminders have been sent and when, without having to go through separate tabs.
- Recording a payment on the timeline confirms that the payment has been received and recorded correctly — always check this if you suspect a payment has not been recorded.
- Comments appear on the timeline among other events, so internal notes related to the invoice stay in context and do not get lost in a separate comment field.
